There are plenty of reasons why someone might need counselling, here's just a couple:
Counselling can help you to:
A counselling session typically begins with the counsellor asking you some questions about your background and your concerns. The counsellor will then work with you to identify your goals and to develop a plan to achieve them. The sessions will usually involve talking about your problems and your feelings. Counselling is confidential. This means that the counsellor cannot share anything you tell them with anyone else without your permission. There are a few exceptions to this rule, such as if you are a danger to yourself or others.
